Dimitar is the Owner and Tennis Director of Santa Barbara School of Tennis (SBTP) & DIMITAR Tennis Academy (DTA) in Santa Barbara, California. He is a USPTR Professional and has been coaching at the top professional level and working with some of the top ranked national and international junior players for over 25 years.

Before founding of SBTP & DTA, Dimitar was the Head Coach of the Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, CA for 10 years, Coach at the Maleeva Tennis Academy, Tournament Director for the Bulgarian Tennis Federation and a Management Director for the Academic Tennis Club (Sofia, Bulgaria). He was ranked among the Top Four Juniors in Bulgaria and has been a professional USPTR since 1993.

Dimitar Yazadzhiev won the prestigious HEAD/Penn Racquet Sports Advisory Pro of the Year Award that was started in 2007. Dimitar's name now proudly stands by the year of 2013!

Dimitar graduated from the prestigious Bulgarian National Sports Academy with a Master's degree in Physical Education and Sports Management. He has been coaching and working with some of the top ranked national and international junior players, among them: Grigor Dimitrov - #28 ATP, #1 ITF B18s, 2006 Orange Bowl Boys 16s Singles Champion, 2008 Jr. Wimbledon Champion, and 2008 Jr. US Open Singles Champion; Anna Tatishvili – #50 WTA, #10 ITF; Sesil Karatancheva - Former #35 WTA and French Open Quarter Finalist; Ksenia Milevskaya - Top 200 WTA and 2007 #2 ITF; Nolan Bauer - #1 Southwest Section B14s and Top 30 US B14s, and many more.

Tennis & Fitness Coach Jeff Banwer

Jeff Banwer
Head Coach - Adult Tennis Activities and Junior Development

Jeff is a USPTR/USPTA certified tennis professional with over 20 years of teaching experience instructing various ages and levels. He received full athletic tennis scholarships to both the University of New Mexico, where he earned a place in the Hall of Fame, and California State University, Long Beach. At both institutions, Jeff played NCAA Division 1. Both teams and earned a top 20 ranking nationally.

Jeff has taught tennis internationally on the red clay in southern Germany, on the east coast in the Hamptons, and extensively on the grass and hard courts of Southern California. He is the 1993/94 Men’s Grass Court Champion and the Coachella Valley Teaching Pro Champion in 1992, 1993, and 2012.

Jeff’s teaching approach involves tailoring every tennis lesson to fit each player’s needs, whether it be for match play, overall conditioning, cardio workout, basic fundamentals, ground strokes, serve and volley, or just for pure fun and love of the game!

Tennis & Fitness Coach Plamen Avuski

Tennis Coach – Summer Camp Activities, Junior Development and Adult Programs

Plamen was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He is 21 years old and is currently a student at Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania. He is competing for the university’s tennis team which is in NCAA Division 1.

Plamen is majoring in Business Management and Management Information Systems. He has a record of 12 wins and 3 losses during his first season as a player of the Saint Francis Men’s Tennis team. He has received Rookie of the Month honors and has been selected for the All NEC Conference team (the best 6 players in the northeast conference). As a player in Bulgaria, Plamen had top 3 rankings in juniors and was ranked 63rd in Tennis Europe Under 16s.He has also competed in Futurse Tournaments in Europe. Plamen has been coaching tennis since 2012 and has international experience.

Tennis & Fitness Coach Ryan Chung

Tennis Coach – Summer Camp and Junior Development

Ryan played competitively for the Santa Barbara Senior High School team. He was able to maintain a consistent rank in the top 100 in both the 16’s and 18’s age division. During each season Ryan had the privilege to play some of the best High School tennis teams in SoCal such as University High, Corona Del Mar, and Harvard Westlake etc.

During his junior and senior year at SBHS, Ryan also worked for Nancy Wheeler teaching tennis to young children under the age of 12 for the Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation organization. Playing competitive tennis and coaching has been Ryan’s passion over the last few years. He is very excited to pass his experience to the young upcoming future stars.
